Mehran Dastmalchi is an assistant professor in the Department of Plant Science at McGill University. His research group studies the biochemistry of crop and medicinal plants, focussing on pathways producing health and defence compounds. They leverage this knowledge for synthetic biology efforts to produce high-value chemicals. Mehran received his Ph.D. from Western University (2015) and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Calgary (2015-2018) and Brock University (2018-2019). Mehran also has research experience in the public and private realms at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the biotech company Epimeron Inc., respectively, where he studied diverse plants and pathways from soybean to opium poppy.
