Nature can teach humans how to make better materials in a more sustainable way. Research in the Harrington group is focused on understanding biochemical structure–property relationships in the function and formation of protein-based biological materials and applying extracted design principles for the development and production of new bio-inspired materials. This fundamental work has potential impact in areas of sustainable plastics, tissue engineering, and high-performance adhesives.
